Welcome to the Program in Intensive EnglishNorthern Arizona University is a progressive, comprehensive university that serves students from the United States and around the world. NAU takes pride in the strong academic and personal rapport promoted between its faculty and students. Academically, NAU offers a wide range of challenging degree programs at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The Program in Intensive English (PIE) was established in 1987 to meet the academic language needs of international students. The program specializes in teaching academic English language and study skills that are essential to success at university levels. While enrolled in the PIE, students are entitled for all university privileges: libraries, computer services, recreational activities, dormitories, and the student health center. After successfully completing the PIE and achieving satisfactory English proficiency, degree-seeking students are automatically admitted to NAU and may enroll full time in University classes. Our program offers excellent instruction and small class size to allow for individual attention. Program HighlightsConversation Partner Program: During the academic year, PIE students can participate in a free conversation partner program. Partners meet at least one hour per week outside of class to converse and engage in various activities. Extracurricular activities: PIE students and instructors visit a variety of sites including: the Grand Canyon, Sedona, the Museum of Northern Arizona. Students and teachers regularly get together for movies, sports activities, lunches, class dinners and an end-of-semester activity.
