Open Enrollment Summer English Language
Program
Educational Consortium Institute
Educational Consortium Institute (ECI) is
a California nonprofit educational organization
founded to provide opportunities for students
ages 14 to 18 from around the world to study
English and experience American culture
in a safe and nurturing environment. ECI
offers a wide variety of innovative and
stimulating programs, each designed to meet
the specific goals of the students enrolled.
ECI’s ten-week program offers students the
flexibility of open enrollment. Students
may sign-up to participate for any length
of time that fits their schedule. ECI also
offers students the opportunity to study
for one semester or longer at a private
high school. These programs are held at
Monterey Bay Academy (MBA), an accredited
private Christian coeducational college-preparatory
school located on the coast of California,
ninety minutes south of San Francisco. The
school is surrounded by strawberry fields,
overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has one-mile
of its own private beach. Whether you want
to study for a summer, a semester, a year,
or graduate from an American high school,
ECI has the program suited to your needs.
Summer Intensive English Program
June to mid-August Open Enrollment
Running from early June to mid-August, this
program is for students who want to focus
on improving their reading, writing, speaking,
and TOEFL score. Participants reside in
the school dormitories and attend classes
from early morning through the afternoon
Monday through Friday. Weekend outings allow
students to take a break from the rigorous
academic demands of the classes and explore
the central and northern coast of California,
including San Francisco. The price of this
program includes all transportation within
the US, tuition, room and board, books,
bedding and all activity expenses.
Price: $725/week for 2007
Private School Program for F-1 Students
Through ECI students may enroll at anytime
throughout the calendar year at Monterey
Bay Academy and may stay enrolled from one
semester to four years. Those who have TOEFL
scores below 490 upon entering the program
take ESL classes along with some regular
education courses until they can demonstrate
they have reached an adequate English proficiency
level. Foreign students may receive transfer
credit at Monterey Bay Academy toward graduation
from previously attended high schools either
within or outside of the United States.
In turn, ECI can assist students in receiving
credit for work completed at Monterey Bay
Academy that can be applied toward graduation
from a high school in their home country.
ECI acts as sponsor and guardian while
in F-1 program. Students in this program
stay at the dormitories at Monterey Bay
Academy and are assigned American roommates
to accelerate the pace at which they acquire
the language and facilitate friendships.
The dormitories are monitored twenty-four
hours a day by MBA staff. All faculty and
administrators live in homes located on
the campus, creating a family-like atmosphere
for the students.
On weekends, ECI staff takes the students
on local outings to area attractions. During
school holidays, ECI plans and chaperones
educational tours with the students to different
areas of the country. ECI also arranges
for students to experience Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and New Years with an American
family by arranging homestays during these
times.
From the time students arrive in the
US until the time they leave, ECI staff
provides constant monitoring and support,
assuring that students mature and develop
in a safe and nurturing environment that
is both intellectually challenging and personally
rewarding.
The cost of this program includes tuition,
room and board, weekend outings, sponsorship
and all ground transportation in the US.
Educational tours and homestays are extra.
Price: $2496 per month, minimum
one year enrollment. Prices subject to change
without notice.
