Welcome to College of the Desert and the Intensive English Academy!The CollegeCollege of the Desert (COD) is a fully accredited institution that was founded in 1958. COD is a two year community college that is located next to the famous resort town of Palm Springs, California. Nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, College of the Desert is only a short drive from Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland and the beautiful California beaches. As safety is a concern for everyone, we are pleased to say that Palm Desert offers students a safe environment in which to live and study. Academics2+2: COD prepares students for successful transfer to the many public and private universities throughout the United States. Students can study 2 years at COD and then transfer to many of the four year universities throughout the United States to complete their Bachelor's degree. Students can choose from over 85 degree and certificate programs including, Business Administration, Computer Science, Digital Design, Hotel/Restaurant Management, Architecture and many other programs in both the liberal arts and sciences. Intensive English AcademyIn addition to academic programs, students can study intensive English at the Intensive English Academy (IEA). The IEA offers 25 hours per week of instruction in the English language for a period of 8 or 16 weeks. Classes focus on grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and are TOEFL prep based. Classes are offered from the beginning to advanced level. ServicesInternational students will find extensive services at College of the Desert and the Intensive English Academy. Student services include academic advising, tutoring center, computer centers, transfer center, career center, health center, student activities & clubs, athletics, dining hall, bookstore and library. The International Student Office staff is available to assist you throughout your studies at College of the Desert. Our office offers services designed to assist our 230+ population of internationals students. Services include academic & immigration advising, host family program, university transfer assistance, activities programs and tutoring. AdmissionsApplication deadlines are as follows: academic program - Fall semester: July 15; Spring semester: December 15; Intensive English Academy - rolling admission. Students applying to the academic program must present a TOEFL score of 400 paper based test or 97 computer based test at the time of application. Prior to registration, students will take an assessment test in math and English to determine course placement. The TOEFL test is not required for admission into the Intensive English Academy. Students must present evidence of financial resources to meet all costs for tuition, books, health insurance and living expenses. Proof of high school graduation or equivalent is required. Students must provide proof of health insurance or may purchase the college health insurance plan. Students looking for a host family or apartment must fill out the Housing Application.
